Both TEF Canada and TCF Canada are accepted by IRCC for Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), and citizenship applications. Choosing the right one can improve your score and save valuable preparation time.
TEF Canada runs approximately 3.5 hours and includes two writing tasks (formal and informal) and five speaking tasks with examiner interaction. TCF Canada runs approximately 2 hours, has one writing task, and uses computer-based speaking.
Choose TEF Canada if: You prefer a traditional exam format, you are comfortable with longer exams, or your test centre only offers TEF.
Choose TCF Canada if: You want a shorter exam, you prefer computer-based speaking, or you find one writing task more manageable than two.
Both tests lead to the same NCLC/CLB score for immigration purposes. DeshiTalksFrench mock exams cover both formats so you can practice whichever test you register for.
